Posted by: Pete Roussel on January 31, 2012 While Chip Kelly and Doug Marrone were fortunate to land NFL head coaching jobs recently, a vast number of college assistants have also made the jump to the NFL. In fact, Marrone has hired ten coaches from the college ranks to join his staff in Buffalo. Kelly has already hired Bill Lazor, Bill McGovern, and Jerry Azzinaro. DeWayne Walker and Rick Christophel left college head coaching jobs to become assistants with the Jaguars and Cardinals, respectively. Derek Dooley could land with the Dallas Cowboys. Before the coaching carousel settles, expect over 32 assistants to make the jump from college to the NFL. As mentioned earlier this week, Miami (FL) running backs coach Terry Richardson makes a lot of sense to fill the same position in Jacksonville. He could reunite with Jedd Fisch. It seems like I'm the only person that suspects Sean Payton may go after Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. It seems odd to me that Payton would prolong the situation if he knew he wanted Romeo Crennel and/or Eric Mangini. I wonder if Payton is waiting until after National Signing Day to make his hire. Speaking of National Signing Day, it's next Wednesday, so expect a ton of movement Wednesday night - Saturday. It happens every year. Stay tuned to the Coaching Search Ticker. As of today, here's the list of college coaches that have already made the jump: Bill Lazor - Philadelphia Eagles -------------------------------------
