When Oregon State coach Mike Riley learned this week that three of his players were arrested, he was disappointed. But he's been around long enough not to be surprised, he said.

"I think if you look at the news, you are not surprised by much of anything," Riley said Monday after practice. "I have read a lot of stuff in the last week about the Cowboys and the Chiefs. There are a lot of bad choices going on in this world so why should we be immune to them."

Three Beavers defenders were suspended and are facings charges of fourth-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct.

"It's horrible," Riley said. "All these things are always about choices. Guys make their own beds so to speak. Not too much good happens that time of day."

Still, Riley was in a good mood Monday as his team started preparations to face Texas.

"I told the players, if you like football and you like to develop and become a better player, this is a great time to do it," he said. "There is no school going on. It's just football practice, football film, good food. That's all you need really. That's life if you like football."

Riley also expressed his respect for Longhorns coach Mack Brown.

"He's kind of a model in this business," Riley said.
