Todd Monken was introduced as the Southern Miss head coach on Tuesday afternoon.

He was the Golden Eagles' first choice.

Monken said, "Don't they have to say that. They're not going to come in here and say you were the eighth choice, for God's sakes.  I know I'm being silly, but let me explain something.  Whether I was the eighth choice or the first choice, I wanted this job."

Monken assured Southern Miss fans that he will bring the no-huddle spread attack from Oklahoma State to Hattiesburg.

Asked to describe the similarities and differences to former Southern Miss head coach Larry Fedora, Monken joked, "Well, we both like visors.  He's got longer, darker hair and a little bit more gel."

So what Monken sell to recruits?

He joked, "Well, it sure as hell beats 18 years of losing and 1 winning season, so I'll tell them 18 out of the last 19 years you've had a winning season.  That's still damn impressive."

Despite referring to his new school as "Southern Miss University" three different times, I hear the University of Southern Mississippi will honor their contract with Monken. (please sense the sarcasm)
