Penn State: Offensive coordinator / tight ends coach John Donovan will move to the coaches box to call plays. Quarterbacks coach / passing game coordinator Ricky Rahne will be on the sideline.
UAB: Assistant defensive line coach Jeremy Hawkins has passed NCAA certification and is allowed to recruit, according to AL.com. The UAB staff was allowed to hit the road recruiting today. Head coach Bill Clark tells AL.com that his three full-time assistants (defensive coordinator Duwan Walker, offensive line coach Mike Bennefield and defensive line coach David Reeves) will have contract extensions through Jan. 1, but nothing has been signed yet. Clark plans to fill out the rest of his full-time staff after the season.
UCF: In response to reports George O’Leary is looking at moving to the permanent AD role after this season, the coach tells the Orlando Sentinel that his coaching contract runs through 2020 and that he’s focused on doing both jobs.
Rutgers: Kyle Flood says his portion of the university’s investigative process is over, and he plans to lead the Scarlet Knights on Saturday. Flood’s contact with a professor is being reviewed by the school.
USC: Steve Sarkisian says one reason he gave play-calling to offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Clay Helton is that Helton had several job offers elsewhere.
Notre Dame: Brian Kelly says offensive play-calling will be a collaboration between Kelly, offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Mike Sanford and wide receivers / associate head coach Mike Denbrock. Sanford will be in the coaches box, and Denbrock will be on the field.
NFL: Executive vice president of communications Paul Hicks is leaving the NFL for Glover Park Group, a firm that provides PR advice to the NFL, according to SportsBusiness Journal. Pro Football Talk adds that Hicks will contribute to projects with the NFL.
UCF: George O’Leary has expressed a strong desire to assume the permanent athletic director job and step down as football coach at the end of this season, according to USA Today’s Dan Wolken. If O’Leary became the AD, offensive coordinator / running backs coach Brent Key would be promoted to head coaching job. The 69-year-old O’Leary became interim AD this summer. There were reports in August 2014 that O’Leary was considering stepping down and promoting Key, but it didn’t transpire.
Duquesne (PA): Dayton vice president for university advancement Dave Harper has been named Duquesne athletic director. Harper moved into his current role at Dayton in 2012 after working as Dayton’s associate vice president for athletics.
North Carolina: Defensive coordinator Gene Chizik will call plays from the coaches box, while defensive backs coach Charlton Warren, defensive line coach Tray Scott and linebackers coach John Papuchis will be on the sideline.
Tennessee Titans: Scouting consultant C.O. Brocato has passed away. The 85-year-old was in his 45th year with the franchise.
Garden City CC (KS): Offensive coordinator Jason Brown is no longer with the staff, and former Texas high school coach Joel Berry is the new offensive coordinator. The change was made two weeks ago.
