The number of coaches that have accepted two different jobs in a matter of weeks has decreased significantly this off-season compared to a year ago.
Last off-season, at least 19 coaches accepted jobs, only to resign within a short period of time, to accept what appeared to be a better opportunity.
With that in mind, Mike Gundy stated earlier this off-season that he would be patient in hiring his new offensive coordinator in order to avoid a situation where the coach he hired would then be snagged up by an NFL organization. Near the end of the NFL coaching carousel, Gundy felt comfortable enough to proceed in naming Shippensburg offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich as his new offensive cooordinator.
This of coaches from this off-season that quickly jumped ship includes:
Rich Bisaccia (San Diego Chargers to Auburn to the Dallas Cowboys)
George McDonald (Miami to Arkansas to Syracuse)
Jeff Banks (UTEP to Virginia to Texas A&M)
Kevin Peoples (Arkansas to Western Kentucky to UAB)
Chris Thomsen (Texas Tech to Cal to Arizona State)
Zach Yenser (LA Tech to Troy to Cal)
Nick Rolovich (Nevada Temple back to Nevada)
Mike Summers (Kentucky to Western Kentucky to USC)
John Lovett (Texas Tech to Cincinnati to Philadelphia Eagles)
Anthony Midget (Georgia State to Marshall to Penn State)
Morgan Turner (Stanford as a QC to FIU to Stanford in full-time role)
Billy Napier (Colorado State to Florida State to Alabama)
Mario Cristobal (FIU to Miami to Alabama)
Jim Bollman (Boston College to Purdue to Michigan State)
Jay Boulware (Auburn to Wisconsin to Oklahoma)
Jim Bridge (NC State to Illinois to Purdue)
Bill McGovern was retained by Steve Addazio, but eventually left for a position with the Philadelphia Eagles. Larry Scott was retained by Willie Taggart, but then opted to join the Miami (FL) staff as tight ends coach. Apollo Wright was retained by Ron Turner, but has since accepted the running backs job at New Mexico. Jay Graham was retained by Butch Jones at Tennessee, but has now joined the Florida State staff.
Here is the list from last off-season:
Bill Sheridan (Miami Dolphins - Ohio State - Tampa Bay Bucs)
Bob Bostad (Wisconsin - Pitt - Tampa Bay Bucs)
Chip Long (Illinois - UAB - Arizona State)
Chris Thomsen (Abilene Christian University - Arizona State - Texas Tech)
Darren Hiller (Arkansas State - Ole Miss - Nevada)
Derrick Ansley (Alabama - UCF - Tennessee)
Grady Brown (Southern Miss - Southern Miss (retained) - South Carolina)
Jim Turner (Texas A&M - Texas Tech - Miami Dolphins)
Joe Gilbert (Illinois - UAB - Indianapolis Colts)
Keith Patterson (Pitt - Arkansas State - West Virginia)
Kevin Corless (Out - Western Illinois - Georgia Southern)
Mike Smith (NY Jets - West Virginia - NY Jets)
Nick Rolovich (Hawaii - UMASS - Nevada)
PJ Fleck (Rutgers - Northern Illinois - Tampa Bay Bucs)
Ron West (Illinois - New Mexico - Arizona State)
Ted Roof (Auburn - UCF - Penn State)
Terrell Williams (Texas A&M - Texas A&M (retained) - Oakland Raiders)
Terry Price (Ole Miss - Texas Tech - Texas A&M)
Todd Sturdy (Washington State - Montana - Iowa State)
Thomsen, Hiller, Ansley, Smith, Fleck, West, and Roof have each accepted new jobs this off-season.
** Thus, Ted Roof moved from Auburn to Orlando to Happy Valley to Atlanta within 15 months. Nick Rolovich moved from Hawaii to Massachusetts to Reno to Philadelphia back to Reno.
