News, Notes & Quotes - June 8

- With Bob Stoops’ retirement, only four active FBS head coaches have won a national title.

Nick Saban (5), Urban Meyer (3) Jimbo Fisher (1), and Dabo Swinney (1) are the only ones. Stoops’ title came in 2000. This is a tough club to break into.

- Lincoln Riley is now the youngest head coach in FBS.

Riley is 33 years old, younger than Mike Norvell (35), Mike Sanford (35), P.J. Fleck (36), Jason Candle (37) and Matt Campbell (37).

- Bill Snyder (77) is older than Tom Herman (42) and Lincoln Riley (33) combined.

Stoops worked under Snyder at Kansas State from 1989-95, and Snyder’s future has also been up in the air.

Speaking of Snyder and Stoops, a reminder that the 1983 Iowa coaching staff under Hayden Fry included Snyder, Bob Stoops, Kirk Ferentz, Barry Alvarez, Dan McCarney and Del Miller.

- Few top-level programs were as consistently successful as Stoops and Oklahoma.

Per Brett McMurphy, Stoops coached 238 games at Oklahoma and only lost consecutive games three times in 18 years.

In those 18 years, OU won 10 Big 12 titles, and the rest of the conference also won 10 titles (including shares). He also lost just nine home games in 18 years.

- Steve Sarkisian was inspired by Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia to get alcohol treatment, after Sabathia decided to take a leave of absence from the Yankees in October 2015.

"That night was when CC Sabathia had decided to go to treatment before the Major League Baseball playoffs,” Sarkisian said this week. “I thought to myself, 'Whoa, here's somebody who is like me, who is in a very high-profile position in sports — ace pitcher of the New York Yankees — and was being relatively commended or almost celebrated for going to do what he did.'

"I knew I needed to (go). I didn't know how to go about it. But that thing gave me a feeling of, 'There's a like person that is going to do this. I know I need to do it. Now how, what, when.' So I made the decision to go do it. It's been the best decision of my life."

- Oklahoma State put together a video about the entire program, from coaches to players, to uniforms to facilities and more.

This is the kind of video that gets sent to recruits.
