Larry Coyer returns to coaching as New Mexico State defensive coordinator

CoachingSearch has learned that former Washington Redskins advance scout Larry Coyer will join the New Mexico State staff as defensive coordinator.

The 70-year-old Coyer most recently coached as Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator from 2009-2011. He served an an advance scout for the Washington Redskins in 2013.

Coyer last coached in college football as defensive coordinator at Iowa State from 1995-96. Other college stops include East Carolina, Ohio State, Houston, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Bowling Green and Marshall.

His other stops in the NFL include the Pittsburgh Steelers (1997-99) and Denver Broncos (2000-06) as defensive coordinator and the New York Jets (1994) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2007-08) as defensive line coach.
