Ed Orgeron doing something Les Miles didn't last year with camps

Part of Ed Orgeron’s push for the full-time LSU head coaching job included his ties to Louisiana, and he’s doing something this summer that Les Miles didn't last year.

LSU coaches will work a camp at Tulane on June 16, and Tulane reportedly plans to cancel its camp with Michigan on June 9. Tulane will also come to LSU's camps.

If you remember a year ago, Miles invited coaches from every Louisiana college program to work LSU — except Tulane, because Tulane was hosting a camp with Texas A&M. This year, Orgeron is working with the Green Wave.

“I’m very excited. I’m grateful for Tulane coach Willie Fritz for inviting us, for protecting the great state of Louisiana,” Orgeron said, per The Advocate. “(We’re) going into the city of New Orleans, going to bring all of our coaches there. Going to be a lot of prospects.

All of the state schools are going to be invited to our camps. I just want everybody to stay in the state of Louisiana, stay together and stay bonded."

Orgeron is from Louisiana and played at Northwestern State, and ties to the state have clearly been important and played a role.

Last year, Miles was open about not inviting Tulane.

“If you’re an in-state school, you want that prospect that just might fall out of the view of the SEC,” Miles said last year. “If there’s a bunch of SEC schools in here, there’s a likelihood at some point in time they take one of their prospects. It’ll be interesting to see. I don’t see that as being necessarily good for a number of schools in this state.”

That won’t be a camp problem this year.
