*3-year span

Nothing can flip momentum in a game like a turnover. Which coaches force the most turnovers? Above are the top 20 play-callers in takeaways over the last 3 years.

Some takeaways:

- 8 of these coaches are also among the top 20 defensive scoring coaches: Kwiatkowski, Orlando, Long, Hankwitz, Venables, Foster, Collins and Wommack.

- David Gibbs’ defenses averaged 2.51 takeaways per game from 2013-15, but had just 13 in 12 games last season.

- 7 of these coaches will be in a new spot in 2017: Orlando (Texas), Bennett (Arizona State), Nix (Texas A&M analyst), Grantham (Mississippi State), Collins (Temple head coach), Wommack (retired) and Holt (Purdue).

- Every one of these coaches has a winning record, most of which far above .500.

- The only head coaches on this list are Gary Patterson, Rocky Long and Todd Graham, but Graham is giving play-calling to Phil Bennett next season.

- Some schools not on this list due to multiple coordinators include Tulane (2.16), Utah (2.0), BYU (1.96), Memphis (1.96) and Michigan State (1.94).
