Breaking down the open jobs in FBS college football

There are more than 30 assistant coaching jobs still open in FBS college football.
It’s been a busy coaching carousel, one that saw 28 head coaching changes and several high profile assistants move. That’s not to mention assistants who became head coaches, such as Kirby Smart, Mike Norvell, Scott Frost and Frank Wilson.
You can see all open FBS assistant jobs here.
After Signing Day, assistants are on the move again, and some moves in the past week included Derrick Ansley from Kentucky to Alabama, Jemal Singleton from Arkansas to the Indianapolis Colts and Jeff Hammerschmidt from Colorado State to the New York Jets. In addition, Jake Spavital is close to joining the Cal staff as offensive coordinator.
The most common opening is running backs, but some openings are unspecified due to coordinator replacements or other factors. This list also doesn’t include Southern Miss, which recently hired a head coach, so it’s unclear how the staff will shake out.
